Don't miss Gypsy, one of the greatest ever Broadway musicals, as it transfers to the West End following its sell-out, rapturously acclaimed five-star run at Chichester Festival Theatre.
Imelda Staunton delivers a "knock-out performance" (The Independent) as Momma Rose in Jonathan Kent's "dazzling revival" (Mail on Sunday), alongside Lara Pulver, who reprises her “stunning” (The Independent) role as Louise. They’ll be joined by Peter Davison as Herb, in this gloriously entertaining musical fable that features "showstopping" (Mail on Sunday) choreography from Stephen Mear.
Based on the true life memoirs of legendary burlesque entertainer, Gypsy Rose Lee, it tells the tale of Momma Rose and her two daughters, Baby June and Louise, trekking across America in their family vaudeville act. But times are changing, audiences are expecting more, and the two girls have their own ambitions in mind. The rise of burlesque is upon them, and nothing will ever be the same again for Momma Rose.
With lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by Arthur Laurents and music by Jule Styne, this moving and "scintillating" (The Times) production of Gypsy is the first to be seen in London for 40 years.
Special notes

Overhyped with drawn out storyline. Imelda Staunton is the star and has won rave reviews, but didn't connect with me 100%. Sense of hollowness about the production. One great scene where children grow up under strobe lighting. Standing ovation at end but I have seen much better. Definitely not "unmissable".
The story line was weak and if it wasn't for Imelda Staunton carrying the rest of the cast we would have left after the first 10 mins. We did not return for the second half as we were really disappointed.
A great show well worth seeing. The seating took the edge off as it is a bit tight.
It was a fabulous performance by everyone but Imelda Staunton ... WOW!
From the start to finish thoroughly enjoy the performance.
One of best shows seen due to performance by Imelda Staunton . Truly stunning to be able to hold an audience in your hand and hear a pin drop in auditorium for 2 mins .A -max-ing !
Imelda Staunton was superb and was surrounded by a strong cast. The emotion portrayed was excwptional. Awards will be plentiful!!
From Australia. Thank you James for the great tickets substituted for the original because of the filming. You were worried the viewing may be disruptive for us. The experience in seeing Gypsy at the Savoy was fabulous. The show was a long one, but one wished it could continue for longer. Thank you. Joyce.
Absolutely loved it! Fabulous performance from Emelda Staunton and all supporting cast.
