The Royal Shakespeare Company, in collaboration with Joe Hisaishi, Nippon TV and Improbable, has announced a final extension for the multi-award-winning stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbour Totoro. The production will now run in the West End until 10 January 2027, after which it will conclude its acclaimed London run.

RSC’s My Neighbour Totoro returns after a record-breaking run at the Barbican. Enjoy this coming of age tale, celebrating childlike wonder and imagination, following the journey of two sisters into the countryside. Who plays Totoro in My Neighbour Totoro? Rather than being played by a single actor, Totoro is brought to life by a team of skilled puppeteers, using extraordinary puppets designed by award-winning puppeteer Basil Twist and created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, with additional puppetry work by Mervyn Millar of Significant Object. Puppeteers of the Totoro puppets include Eero Chen Liu, Gun Suen and Sango Tajima.  Who plays Mei in My Neighbour Totoro? Victoria Chen plays Mei. Her credits include Aladdin (Perth Theatre), The Night Before Christmas (Polka Theatre) and As You Like It (Orange Tree).  Who plays Satsuki in My Neighbour Totoro? Helen Chong Jones plays Satsuki. The critically acclaimed stage adaptation of the Studio Ghibli cult classic, has announced its West End extension, and has released brand-new puppet photography to celebrate.  The enchanting show first opened at the Barbican back in 2022, where it picked up six Olivier Awards, the most than any other show that year. It then transferred to the Gillian Lynne Theatre in 2025, where it will now play until 30 August 2026. Kenichi Yoda of Nippon TV and Studio Ghibli said “seeing the show enter its third London year is a heartfelt wish come true,” hoping the magic continues to be shared “with loved ones.”

The Mogul Music Hall is the first theatre known to stand on the site of the theatre we now know as the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Between 1919 and 1965 the venue was named The Winter Gardens and after major renovations became the New London Theatre in 1973. The Gillian Lynne Theatre was home to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats which was the longest running musical in West End history when the show closed in 2002. In 2018 the decision was made to rename the theatre to The Gillian Lynne Theatre, after the groundbreaking choreographer, making it the first London Theatre to ever be named after a woman.
