A tender kiss can conceal the hardest of hearts.
Anthony Minghella’s Olivier Award-winning production returns to the London Coliseum. His staging combines cinematic images and traditional Japanese theatre.
In Puccini‘s story of unrequited love, Cio-Cio San, a young Japanese girl, falls in love and marries American naval officer Pinkerton. He goes back to the US before the birth of their son leaving Cio-Cio San to await his return.
Natalya Romaniw, last season’s acclaimed Mimì (La bohème) at ENO, sings the title role for the first time in London.
She is joined by tenors Dimitri Pittas and Adam Smith who share the role of Pinkerton.
Leading British baritone Olivier Award-nominated Roderick Williams is Sharpless. Mezzo Stephanie Windsor-Lewis returns as Suzuki.
Conducting this revival is ENO Music Director Martyn Brabbins.
Co-production with the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and the Lithuanian National Opera

I was unable to attend the opera as i cancelled my trip to the UK due to the corona virus and would like a refund.
Slow, nothing was happening, expected something that suits 21st century so it is more entertaining. Everyone around me was having a nap
Really enjoyed the production
Vibrant colours; amazing 'choreography'. A visual feast! As always (for me) difficult to keep up with dialogue (apart from Roderick Williams whose enunciation is impeccable); our seats were the highest in the theatre and we knew we wouldn't be able to see the surtitles. It would be great to have local surtitle laser projection in the upper circle.
Brilliant performances by all, second time I've seen this adaption it did not fail to impress me
Spectacular performance. I would definitely recommend!
Excellent show
The production was fantastically done and the actors were superb - if you are into Puccini tragedies and opera, then this is well worth it
Wonderful evening
Our very first 'live' Opera. Don't get down to London very often these days, although I was born in South London, over 70 years ago. We've lived here in the East-Midlands...., Nottinghamshire for over fifty years. Well worth the trip. Stayed at St Martin's Lane Hotel (almost next door). Also dined at J Sheekeys, couple of hundred yards in opposite direction. Performance was absolutely wonderful. Liked the simplicity of the 'scenery', screens, cloudy/black scene shifters and mannequin operators. So clever that it took a while to work out that the 'boy's feet were operated by a third person..., and a 'girl' at that, only kidding. THANKS xx
Fantastic set and female singers were outstanding!
Beautiful . So sad, which is what it's meant to be.
